UPSC Indian Economic Service and ISSE

UPSC holds a competitive examination for recruitment to the Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service.

Eligibility for UPSC Indian Economic Service & ISSE:

Age and Nationality: same as age and national eligibility for Civil Services Examination.

Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to the prescribed physical standards by UPSC.

Educational Qualification for UPSC Indian Economic Service & ISSE:

  • Indian Economic Services: Post graduate degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Business Economics/Econometric.
  • Indian Statistical Service: Post graduate degree in Statistics/Mathematical Statistics/Applied Statistics from any of the recognised Universities.

Exam Pattern of UPSC Indian Economic Service & ISSE:

The Preliminary Examination consists of “Four” papers. Question Papers are set in English only.

Indian Economic Service:

  • General English: 180 Minutes / 100 marks
  • General Studies: 180 Minutes / 100 marks
  • General Economics I: 180 Minutes / 200 marks
  • General Economics II: 180 Minutes / 200 marks
  • General Economics III: 180 Minutes / 200 marks
  • Indian Economics: 180 Minutes / 200 marks

Pattern of Exam: Syllabus for optional subject papers for the examination is Broadly of the Honours Degree level.

  • General Studies: 180 Minutes / 100 marks
  • Statistics I: 180 Minutes / 200 marks
  • Statistics II: 180 Minutes / 200 marks

  • Statistics IV: 180 Minutes / 200 marks

Interview for Indian Economic Service & ISSE:

The object of the interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for the Service. This will carry 200 marks.

How to Apply for UPSC Indian Economic Service & ISSE:

The completed Application Form must reach the Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, New Delhi 110011 on or before the last date fixed by the UPSC as per instructions contained in the notification which appears in the Employment News or Commission’s website: www.upsc.gov.in.
