Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) holds a competitive examination for recruitment to Geologists (Junior) Group A in Geological Survey of India.
Eligibility for UPSC Geologists:
21-31 years on 1st January of the year of recruitment. The Upper age-limit is relaxable for SCs/STs/OBCs and certain other categories as per rules.
Nationality: Same as eligibility for UPSC CDSE.
Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to the prescribed physical standards of UPSC.
Educational Qualification for UPSC Geologists:
Master’s Degree in Geology or Applied Geology or Marine Geology or Diploma of Associate-ship in Applied Geology of Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad; or Master’s degree in Mineral Exploration (for posts in Geological Survey of India only).
Exam Pattern for UPSC Geologists:
- General English (120 minutes / 100 marks)
- Geology Paper I (180 minutes / 200 marks)
- Geology Paper II (180 minutes / 200 marks)
- Geology Paper III (180 minutes / 200 marks)
The exam is conventional (essay) type. All question papers must be answered in English only. The standard of the paper in General English is such as may be expected of a science graduate. The papers on geological subjects are approximately of the M.Sc. degree.
Interview for Geologists:
The candidate will be interviewed by Commission for Personality Test of carrying 200 marks. The main objectivce of interview is to judge the capacity for leadership, initiative and intellectual curiosity, tact and other social qualities, mental and physical energy, powers of practical application, integrity of character and aptitude for adapting themselves to the field life.
