Indian Navy Technical Entry Scheme

Eligibility Criteria for SSB 10+2 / B. Tech Entry in Indian Navy:

Educational Qualification for Technical Officer: Senior secondary (10 + 2 pattern) with at least 70 percent aggregate marks in PCM and at least 50% marks in English either in class X or class XII. Also candidate should have qualified JEE Mains exam. 

Age: 16.5 years to 19 years

Nationality: Only unmarried citizens of India are eligible.

Physical Criteria: Minimum height is 157 cm with appropriate weight, chest with minimum 5 cm expansion.

Selection Procedure for Technical Officer :

Candidate will need to apply online at joinindiannavy.gov.in website and need to upload images candidate picture and relevant documents like Date of Birth proof, JEE Mains score card, 10th and 12th mark-sheet.

SSB Recruitment Stage I selecting will be done through:

  • Intelligence Test
  • Individual Task
  • Group Discussions

Stage II Selection will be done through:

  • Psychological Test
  • Group Tasking
  • Interview
  • Medical Test

Training in Navy :

Candidates who get selected will join Navy’s 4 years B. Tech program. (Degree will be awarded by Jawahar Lal Nehru University) in Electronics & Communication Engineering or Electronics & Communication Engineering or mechanical Engg at Indian Naval Academy at Kerala.

All successful cadets are promoted to the rank of midshipman and after further six months periods they are promoted to the rank of Sub Lieutenant. Thereafter promotion to the rank of Lieutenant and Lieutenant commander.

Indian Navy Sailors

On successful completion of training sailor is recruited for a initial period of 15 years. However, service period is extendable with maximum limit being till the attainment of 57 yrs of age, which depends on the rank attained and satisfactory performance by the sailor in the Indian Navy.

Eligibility Criteria for Sailor in Indian Navy:

Educational Qualification: Applicant should 12th(Intermediate) passed with Science stream with compulsory subjects Physics and Maths.

Age: The candidate should not be less than 17 or more than 21 years on the date of enrolment).

Nationality: Citizens of India are eligible. The Gorkhas, subjects of Nepal, are also eligible for applying for SSR recruitment.

Marital Eligibility : Only unmarried males are eligible.

Physical Criteria: Minimum height required is 157 cm and proportionate body weight with minimum chest expansion of 5 cms. Candidate must be physically fit, for this purpose a physical fitness will be taken. The Physical Fitness Test consist 1.6 km run which is to be completed in 07 minutes, 20 Squats and 10 Push ups.

Medical Criteria : A candidate must have good mental and physical health and free from all diseases and good eye sight.

Training:

24 weeks basic training at INS Chilka followed by 24 weeks professional training in the allotted trade in Naval Establishments all over the country.

Indian Navy Artificer Apprentice:

Educational Qualification:

Senior secondary (10 + 2 pattern) with at least 55 percent aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Age: Minimum 17 years and maximum 20 years.

Nationality and Marital Status: nationality same as for sailor in Indian Navy

Physical Criteria: same as physical criteria for sailor Indian Army

Medical Fitness Test: Applying candidate must not have any disease. Medical exam will be conducted by Military Doctors as per medical standard prescribed under current regulations applicable to the sailors of Indian Navy on entry.

Eye Sight Criteria

Without Glasses: Better Eye (6/12); Worse Eye (6/12)
With glasses: Better Eye (6/9); Worse Eye (6/12)

Training in Indian Navy:

The training for Artificer Apprentice will generally be for 09 weeks Basic Training at INS Chilka followed by 08 weeks sea training.
Thereafter four years training in technical training establishments of the Navy.

Diploma:

On completion, candidates will have Diploma in Electrical / Mechanical / Aeronautical Engineering which is recognised by the Govt of India for purposes of employment in Central /State Govt.
The period of the initial engagement of Artificer Apprentice sailor is 20 years. However, service period is extendable with maximum limit of 57 years of age.
