finland heating the whole town in winters

The world’s first commercial-scale sand battery (which is also the largest sand battery in the world) is located in Kankaanpää, Finland, Europe. It stores excess renewable energy (from wind or solar) by heating a large silo of sand to roughly 600°C. This thermal energy can be stored for months and used to provide district heating for the entire town during the winter.
