Who invented football?
There are many theories as to who invented football, but most experts agree that the English played it first. In fact, a pig bladder used for the ball is thought to be the first football. The earliest known representation of a real football was in an Edinburgh print of 1672, and the sport’s name is derived from the fact that the players run and walk.
The Greeks were also believed the first to play the game, and Canton is believed to have invented it. He is credited as the ‘father of football rules,’ but the rules were often challenged and ignored. In the nineteenth century, the game was played in England by upper-class Victorians, as a genteel alternative to lawn tennis. In 1839, a rugby player named Albert Pell, an amateur of the Royal Family, conceived of the idea of playing football and began organizing matches between the universities. This gave rise to the need for compromise rules to be imposed between various schools.
The sport’s origins are not entirely clear. It is thought to have originated in ancient China and was first played by the Chinese. The game evolved throughout history, but its origins are not clear. Some researchers believe that the game was developed by scholars at the University of Cambridge, which later spread to other parts of the world. The first set of football rules was established in 1863 after several meetings in London. The ‘father’ of these rules was Ebenezer Cobb Morley.
