Indian Reserve Battalion Recruitment
What is IRB?
IRB or India Reserve Battalion are elite units sanctioned to States and union Territories which are equipped and trained to deal with specific situation and used in exceptional situation.
IRB recruitment is modeled on Central Police Force however states may conduct regional Recruitment.
Main Tasks of IRB are:
- Cordoning and search operations
- Raid on a hostile hideouts
- Combing operations
- Reinforcing a patrol
- Counter ambush operations
- VIP/VVIP Security
- Training of State Police

IRB Constable
IRB Eligibility:
Education Eligibility: Candidates who have passed intermediate (12th) / SSLC are eligible.
Age: 18 years to 25 years on 1 August (some state may have different maximum age limit)
Physical: Applying candidate must be physically fit, a physical efficiency test will be taken to check fitness of the candidate.
Physical Eligibility Criteria:
Height: 167 cms
Chest: 81 cms with expansion
Eye must have full field vision.
IRB Constable Selection:
Selection Process for IRB Constable:
A. Road run of 5 kms to be completed in maximum 25 minutes. (May be different from State to State).
2. Written Test (conducts by some states)
3. Physical Fitness Test and Physical Measurement
A. 100 Mts run
B. High Jump
C. Long Jump
D. Shot Put 7 Kg
E. Rope Climbing
F. Pull Ups or Chinning
G. 1500 Meters run
