Does EU stands for Europe?
The answer is No, many people confuses EU with Europe, but there is a clear difference between them. EU stands for European Union which is a Economic and Political union of 27 countries while Europe is a Geographical continent.
What Countries Are in the European Union?
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden are members of EU.
When did the European Union start?
The European Union began collaborating economically after World War II. In 1957, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and Germany joined. In the early 1970s, countries like Ireland and Greece joined the union. Other countries such as Denmark and Sweden joined in the early 1980s, while Spain and Portugal joined in the mid-1980s. Eventually, countries like Iceland, Norway, and Finland joined, as did Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. When it comes to economics, the European Union is seen as beneficial to many countries. UK left EU in February 2020.
The EU shares some government duties with its member states, but not all. Certain policies are implemented only after a majority vote in the European Council, and they must be approved unanimously by each state government. When a member country votes to become a part of the EU, it becomes a member of the EU. If a country formally joins, the referendum process can take a long time.
