What does Renaissance mean?
The word Renaissance means rebirth or a coming out of darkness. The Middle Ages began with the fall of the Roman Empire, and the people of that time lost many advances in science, art, and government. The Renaissance emerged after this time to revive these advances and put a new spin on these traditions. In fact, the term “renaissance” came to mean a time when humankind was free to pursue its own interests and aspire to be like God.
The Renaissance is an era of art, music, and architecture that began in the 14th century in Italy. The period spanned the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries in Europe. The movement was marked by a return to classical models and humanistic thought. It also helped to modernize the arts and sciences, as well as revolutionize the way people thought. This era was also marked by the development of science and technology.
The European Renaissance was characterized by attitudes and ideas. Some of its characteristics are seen in the architecture that was developed during the period. The architectural styles of the time were characterized by a free use of isolated details as well as more imitative use of whole orders. The Italian Renaissance also saw a return to the strict mathematical relationship between parts.
