Indian Forest Service Examination (UPSC IFS):
Primary Exam for UPSC IFS and Civil Service will be common.
Number of attempts: Every candidate appearing at the Examination shall be permitted four attempts at the examination.
Eligibility for UPSC Indian Forest Service:
Age and Nationality: same as age and national eligibility for Civil Services Examination.
Physical Standards: Candidates must be physically fit according to the prescribed physical standards by UPSC.
Educational Qualification for UPSC Indian Forest Service:
The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering of any of Universities recorginised by Indian Government.

Exam Pattern of UPSC Indian Forest Service:
Pre Examination:
The Preliminary Examination consists of “Two” papers. Question Papers are set in English only.
Main Examination:
Paper I:
General English: 180 Minutes / 300 marks
Pattern of Exam: Candidates will be required to write an essay in English. Other questions will be designed to test their understanding of English and workmanlike use of words. Passages will usually be set for summary or precis.
Paper II:
General Knowledge: 180 Minutes / 300 marks
Pattern of Exam: General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observation and experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. The paper will also include questions on Indian Polity including the political system and the Constitution of India, History of India and Geography of a nature which the candidate should be able to answer without special study.
Paper III, IV, V, VI:
- Paper I and II of selected subject: 180 Minutes / 200 marks
- Paper I and II of selected subject: 180 Minutes / 200 marks
Subjects: Syllabus for IFS and Civil Service Exam will be nearly same.

Interview for Indian Forest Service:
The object of the interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for the Service. The candidate will be expected to have taken an intelligent interest not only in his subjects of academic study but also in events which are happening around him both within and outside his own State or country, as well as in modern currents of thoughts and in new discoveries which should rouse the curiosity of well-educated youth. This will carry 300 marks.
